Vinyasa means every movement has a breath. There are 3 elements we focus on in the practice:
- Vinyasa
- Alignment
- Mindfulness
This will be a mixed level class. All practitioners are welcome. Different levels and options will be provided based on individuals’ needs and physical capabilities.
Any requirements or limitations? No. The most important pose is Savasana (Corpse pose). Anyone can lay down on their back and rest, if none of the other poses can be done by their physiological ability.
ABOUT RESTORATIVE IYENGAR YOGA (Last Tuesday of each month)
Iyengar yoga is Hatha yoga. It is a vast science, art and philosophy.
Yoga helps to restore the body and mind to good health.
The focus of this restorative class is on:
- Alignment of the body
- Restorative poses
- Self knowledge in asana practice
- Developing a home practice
B.K.S. Iyengar wrote a seminal text, Light on Yoga, and has inspired millions of yogis around the world.
Although all yoga is restorative in nature, Nancy’s class is a slower paced class. We use props for maximum support and release.
ABOUT OUR YOGA TEACHERS
Jenny Hannah began studying yoga in 1999 while healing from a severe bicycle injury. Since that time, she has studied deeply and whole-heartedly under various schools of movement and Yoga, and in 2007 she began teaching. Integrating the principles of bio-mechanics, with its precise methodology, and connecting to the intuitive experience of the body as the ground, she has worked with thousands of people, from competitive athletes, the elderly, mothers-to-be, professional dancers, traffic devotees, energetic yogis, and those recovering from injury. In class she aspires to venture into a co-creative space where we experience the natural support, spaciousness and clarity of our wisdom body. Please visit yogasonata.com for Jenny’s full bio.
Heidi Leong began practicing yoga when she was in her 20s and was attracted to the physical fitness and increase in flexibility that yoga provides. When Heidi started her yoga teacher training in her 30s with OM Yoga Center New York, she discovered that yoga is so much more than just about the physical; it is a tool to unite body and mind with our true nature. Heidi practices alignment-based Vinyasa yoga, grounded in the dharma practices of mindfulness and compassion. She enjoys guiding students to approach the pose with clarity, hold the pose with confidence, and dissolve the pose with gentleness and compassion. The combination of yoga asana practice with deep relaxation will prepare us to sit more comfortably in our meditation practice.
Nancy Sander started yoga in college in the 1970’s with a 60 year old teacher who could stand on her head. Nancy continued to practice and enrolled in the three-year teacher training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles becoming a certified Iyengar instructor in 2004. Yoga unites or yokes the mind with the body. “Our fundamental attitudes to life have their physical counterparts in the body. Tenacity is gained by stretching in various Yoga postures for minutes at a time, while calmness comes with quiet, consistent breathing and the expansions of the lungs.” (Light on Yoga, by B.K.S. Iyengar) Nancy found balance and relief from physical and emotional turmoil over the years through the practice of yoga. She was fortunate to have studied with the late B.K.S. Iyengar in the U.S. and spent a month at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India studying with the Iyengars. She became a teacher to deepen her own practice and to share her knowledge of yoga.
