Laying the ground

If your centre never went through the process of building a website using the original template system, then you will need to follow these 4 steps before you follow the instructions on the Journey page.

1.  Website administrator

You will need to choose a web administrator for your center. this is someone who ideally has some basic computer skills, word processing etc. and feels comfortable learning new easy to use programs.

2. Gathering content

The web administrator will lead the center in gathering content for the new site, this will be text and photos.  You should write the text for all the pages in each section and have it approved by the council and gather appropriate center related images.  Some specific information for processing your images: scan them in if they are not digital, with any image editor make them medium size jpegs no larger than 400 pixels wide (general rule of thumb for all websites).

3. Programs database

Next the web administrator will set up a database profile for your center on the new Shambhala database.  To do this email Bernard at [email protected]  with your center data (name, city, address, email, phone etc.) He will work with you to set up a profile.

4. Online payment

If you would like registrants to have the option to pay for their program online when they register, you will have to set up a ‘merchant’ account with Paypal at paypal.com.  With paypal, the email you use to set up the account acts as your account number.  It is a good idea to have the finance person for the center help you in setting this up.  You will need to have the email address or your Paypal Merchant account before you visit the website menu to build your site.

After you have completed Steps 1-4 go to the journey page for the 2.0 site to follow the rest of the steps.
