Tips For Trips

The ride listing is easy and safe to use, but you must exercise judgment and caution before accepting or offering a ride to someone you don’t know. Follow these tips to make your trip a safe and pleasant one.

Safety

We do not perform background checks or screen postings in any other way. It’s up to you to learn what you need to know for a safe journey. Here are some recommendations to get you started:

  • Obtain a work number or other contact number for the driver/rider, and ask if you can contact someone for a reference.
  • If possible, meet your driver/rider in a public place before getting into the car.
  • Ask questions about the vehicle: age, condition, appropriate seasonal tires, etc. and about the driver: Do you drive the speed limit? Are you a conscientious driver? Do you have sufficient insurance coverage? These questions help to establish guidelines for travel that are comfortable for both of you – it’s your safety! Don’t forget to discuss plans for frequent stops to get refreshed and rested; possible sharing of driving duties to keep drivers alert, etc.

Etiquette

  • Discuss the suggested contribution BEFORE departing! While this listing is not meant to advertise for-profit shuttle businesses, it is prudent for drivers to ask for costs to cover vehicle wear and tear as well as fuel. We suggest that passengers pay $30-$50 for a 600-700 kilometre trip, depending on the number of other riders.
  • If you need to cancel, please contact the other person. It is NOT respectful to just not show up!
  • Once you agree on a meeting time, please be on time. Whether you are the driver or a passenger, people relying on transportation for appointments, employment, or events often cannot afford to wait for you. Call ahead if you know you are going to be late. Better yet, plan ahead so you can be on time.
  • Discuss your travel plans in detail and/or agree on a timeline for arrival that allows for necessary or desired stops.
  • If you experience a situation in which you feel your safety was compromised during a trip, please contact us.
  • When your ride is full, please delete your ride so people don’t get their hopes up.
