Room: BURBANK CENTER - Main Shrine Room

Join us at summer’s end for an in-person day of meditation, contemplative writing practice, and movement at our Burbank Center. No prior experience necessary. All are welcome!

By learning to rest in the present moment through mindfulness meditation, we connect with our own inherent sanity and worthiness despite what's happening in our world so that we can be present for every aspect of our lives.

Day Schedule

> Guided group instruction will be given followed by periods of sitting and walking meditation.

> Contemplative writing practice exercises will be offered in which we will play with what arises from the infinite richness of space.

> Since our bodies are always in the present moment, gentle movement exercises will be offered to help us synchronize mind and body and get unstuck.

> Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day. There will be a lunch break from 12 – 1:30 pm. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or plan to pick something up at one of the local eateries.

What To Bring

We have plenty of assorted meditation cushions, though you are welcome to bring your own. Chairs are also available for sitting and writing practice. Participants should wear lose, comfortable clothing suitable for movement. Please bring a notebook, pad, or paper and a couple of fast-moving pens. You may also choose to write on your laptop or other device.

About the teachers:

Debra Dysart has been involved with Shambhala ever since she found Pema Chödrön’s Wisdom of No Escape in a bookstore in 1997. She is a meditation instructor and teacher and has served in various administrative roles through the years at the LA Shambhala Center. Debra is a writer and has a special affinity for the dharma art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. She has studied with Natalie Goldberg as well as other Buddhist teachers who approach writing as practice. Debra leads contemplative writing workshops at LA Shambhala. She also sings with the Verdi Chorus and is a member of their board of directors.

Jenny Hannah is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, yoga instructor, art therapist, and artist. She was first introduced to Shambhala in 2007. Having trained formally in the mind-body modalities of psychology, movement, and art, she weaves the depth of her studies into a holistic and transformative approach to well being. Jenny has held several leadership positions and remains actively involved in the LA Shambhala community. Learn more about her work at https://www.jennyhannah.com/
